This Week at The Cumming Harvest
THIS WEEK – squash, tomatoes, eggplant, onions…
EGGS – With the heat, the chickens are struggling to lay enough eggs to keep the market demand satisfied. There is always waves of supply where eggs are concerned. Please limit your orders of eggs to no more than two dozen per family so others may have a chance to order.
This week is National Farmers Market Week. United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack made this week official back in June, calling it a time to “further awareness of farmers markets’ contributions to American life.” The USDA now counts 8,678 existing markets across the country. Although access to markets and local food is uneven across the country, the total number of markets has doubled in the last 10 years. That’s worth celebrating.
