Market News

Ever hear the weather lore: “Year of snow, crops will grow”? Think about it this way:

Sub zero temperatures mean that snowfall is much lighter because there isn’t much water vapor in the air. When temperatures are closer to 32 degrees Fahrenheit snowfall can be heavy and wet.

Years ago many farmers decided that if there was a snowy winter, temperatures wouldn’t be that cold, so the planting season could start earlier in the year.

They also thought there would be more water from the snow melt to help seeds sprout and seedlings grow.

Thus, the proverb Year of Snow Crops.

Maybe thinking about this weather lore will help give you the patience to get through this snowy winter, and help anticipate what’s to come from our farmers.

FARM FRESH FOODS due to possible icy and dangerous conditions Farm Fresh Foods will not be selling this week. Amy’s kitchen is at another location than her home, therefore she won’t be able to get there to bake.

MY DAILY BREAD will be selling their baked goodies. Those of you that love their brownies may have noticed a change a couple of weeks ago. They were experimenting with using 100% cacoa because it was non alkali. It changed the color and texture slightly so staying true to the original and popular brownie recipe they are now using a non alkali cocoa and the result is a healthier brownie we all love.

Also, My Daily Bread will have ALL of their jams and jellies $1 off this week.

Milk Delivery for milk is usually on Tuesday but this week because of the weather we moved it to Friday. Please contact me if you would like to adjust or cancel your milk order.
