Spring time is upon us again. The planting of vegetables and flowers is in full spead as we work to provide an aboundance of fresh new products. Please feel free to make your selections from the great products available this week.

Remember the New Customer Referral Program
From March 20 through June 30

How it Works
1. Tell a friend about the CUMMING HARVEST farmers market.
2. Have them register at cumming.locallygrown.net. (the market managers will contact all new customers to ask who referred them)
3. After their third purchase (3 different weeks), your credit will be applied to your account.
Thank you for sharing your love of healthy food and for helping to support our local growers!

This week on The Cumming Harvest

This Week

Happy New Year! Let the Cumming Harvest help you keep your New Year’s Resolution to stay healthy in 2018.

Have you tried Phoenix Garden’s Juicing bundle yet? Fill your fridge with winter greens like kale and mustard from Metz Country Gardens, or make a yummy salad with lettuce from Grow with the Flow, carrots from Heirloom Gardens and hakurei turnips from Leilani’s Gardens. Yum!

Check out Bramberi’s listings for lamb and Southern Grass Meat’s brisket halves and ground beef. Doug’s Wild Salmon supply is dwindling, so if you haven’t stocked up your freezer yet, do so soon!

You’ll feel like you’re splurging even when you’re not while eating HomeSpun Baking Company’s Gluten-free Paleo Bar, or My Daily Bread’s Organic Spelt Pumpkin muffins.

Perhaps you’ve thought about making the switch to a deodorant that’s better for your body? Southern Essentials makes it easy with their line of deodorants that smell amazing.

Thank you for supporting your local farmers, beekeepers, jam makers, and artisans in the coming year.

One final note: Ownership and management of the market transferred on January 1. Suzanne will still be available to assist with market matters during this time of transition, but for future questions and concerns, please update your market contact information. Feel free to contact Jennifer Martinez at thecummingharvest@gmail.com

Happy New Year!

A New Start

About a month ago I sent this message to all our growers/vendors and now I’d like to share it with you.

I’ve decided to step away from the market as the owner/manager starting January 1st. After deciding to step back, I had to think of someone who had the passion and time to dedicate to the market, someone who could step in and take over for me.

Introducing Jennifer Martinez…

If you’ve ordered from the market recently, hopefully you were able to meet a new friendly face, Jennifer Martinez. Jennifer has been in the local farming community for the past several years—two as a regular volunteer on a few local farms, and three working at Cane Creek Farm as the CSA manager. In 2016, Jennifer, her husband, and two children purchased an old family homestead situated on 22 acres in Ball Ground, and last year they finally realized their dream of starting their own farm by moving onto the property. Taking their cue from a Wendell Berry poem, Jennifer named their farm “Reverdure,” which means “to make green again.” When she’s not homeschooling her children, you can find Jennifer renovating the home and working in the garden. I’m so happy that I found Jennifer Martinez. She shares the knowledge, passion and dedication for locally grown food and I’m confident she will continue the market in a way we’ll all be happy about.

My Dad and I started The Cumming Harvest over 7 years ago and we honestly feel that being at the market makes us feel good. The market is not a JOB and it’s not WORK, it was built from a passion to support local organically growing farmers. I’ve been able to take the knowledge I’ve gained from our local farmers to help Coal Mountain ES start their garden program. I’ve gained enough knowledge to feel confident to speak at schools about our local farmers, and have shown kids how to make green smoothies, kale salad and eggplant fries from local food. I just recently spoke at the Food for Thought conference sponsored by the Georgia Farmers Market Association and discussed our Locally Grown farmers market. If I’m still called, I will always gladly advocate for our local farmers. I’m so thankful for everything the market has given me and the people I’ve met. Without your support, we couldn’t have continued or would want to. We are grateful to everyone!

My family has grown up with the market being part of our Saturday routine. My oldest is now 16 and a Junior and my youngest is 13 and just started middle school. When I started the market they were 9 and 5. They’ve always supported me, sometimes coming over to help, visiting farmers, and eating all the new local food recipes I’ve tried. Each week is flying by, they are growing up so fast before I know it they’ll be in college. As you know with college brings new expenses and although I love the market, it’s not a paying job, it’s all done out of love. So on November 1st, 2016, I received my Georgia Real Estate license and began working for Keller Williams. I’ve spent this last year juggling the market and real estate pretty well but with a lack of focus and passion I had before.

So, starting January 1st, Jennifer will own and manage the Cumming Harvest with a fresh, energetic spirit and passion that it needs. My Dad, Bill, will continue helping on Saturday’s and I will come in when I miss everyone as I’m sure will be often. But if you don’t see me at the market and wonder what I’m doing just know I’m “crushing it” selling houses. ;)

Thank you all for everything and please keep in touch!

It's Christmas at The Cumming Harvest

This Week

The market will be open this Saturday. Be sure to check out what’s available while planning your holiday meals!

Bramberi Farms has added rack of lamb, leg of lamb, and lamb chops as well as 1 lb bags of frozen raspberries this week.

HomeSpun Baking Company is back after a few weeks away with a brand new kitchen and our favorite gluten-free baked goods.

It’s also a great time to pick up any last-minute gifts or stocking stuffers.

Consider giving mini loaves or jam made by My Daily Bread, B & A Bee’s beeswax candles, lavender room and linen spray from Southern Essentials, gluten-free treats made by HomeSpun Baking Company, cookies from Royal Rose Bakery or Cultured Tradition’s Garlic Dill Pickles.

Do you know anyone who is interested in buying local but just hasn’t taken the next step? Giving a gift certificate for The Cumming Harvest is a win-win: you will help promote your favorite farmers and artisans while spreading holiday cheer.

This week at the market

This Week

Eggs
Our newest grower, Roper Family Farm, begins selling eggs this week! They are raising 22 Golden Comet chickens on pasture using rotational grazing methods supplemented with certified Organic, soy-free feed.

Ancient Awakenings will be listing this week. Stock up on your favorite products; they will not be back at the market until January 12.

Correction from last week: Indian Creek Angus will deliver on January 6th.

Heirloom Gardens Wreaths
This is the last week to purchase these beautiful decorative wreaths.

Cheese
We will be placing an order for natural raw-milk cheese, made at Meadow Valley Farm, an Amish farm in Indiana that raises their cows on pasture. We have ordered from them before and their product is delicious, non-GMO and soy-free. Varieties offered include Cheddar, Colby, Havarti, Gouda, Pepper Jack, Meadow Jack, and Jalapeno. If you are interested in purchasing 1 pound blocks, please let Suzanne or Jennifer know your quantity and variety preference this week to make sure that we order what you like.

The market will be open during the holiday season. We thank you for supporting your local growers and artisans with your purchases of holiday cooking and baking supplies.
